Sprinkler Fitter Essentials: Fundamentals of Fire Protection Systems
This is an online continuing education course for Mechanical Journeyman and Sprinkler fitters licensed in Saint Louis County, Missouri. This interactive video presentation course provides information about essential fire protection principles, various fire protection systems, and established procedures for periodic inspection and maintenance procedures of these systems.
Part I of this interactive video presentation introduces the principles and practices used to protect life and property from fire-related loss. It examines the fundamentals of fire science, including combustion, heat transfer, fire growth, and fire dynamics within buildings. Participants will learn how an understanding of fire behavior supports the selection and implementation of effective fire protection measures. This section also provides an overview of accepted engineering practices, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements associated with fire prevention, detection, control, and suppression.
Part II of this interactive video presentation discusses Fire protection systems which are designed to extinguish fires as quick as possible to prevent the loss of lives and property. When fire suppression systems are installed, the system would control, put out any fire that may result and signal the fire department. However, in the absence of similar systems, any building could be severely damaged or completely destroyed before the fire department could respond. There are several types of fire protection systems. Each system is designed to serve in specific locations and has its unique components and functioning characteristics. In order to ensure that these systems are safe and reliable, periodic inspection and maintenance of their components is required.
This course is intended for Mechanical Journeymen, Sprinkler Fitters, HVAC technicians, fire protection system designers, architects, contractors, building professionals, and other technical personnel seeking a practical understanding of fire protection principles and systems.
