Construction Safety

This is an online continuing education course for Residential Endorsement Contractors licensed in the State of Alaska. This online interactive presentation provides responsible employers, workers, and worker representatives with a sound, flexible framework for addressing safety and health issues on diverse construction job sites. Also, it provides an overview of the basic OSHA guidelines for fall protection for protecting workers against potential fall hazards. Moreover, this course presents the fundamentals of electrical safety to ensure a safe workplace.
 

Part I of this course emphasizes the importance of establishing a safety and health program at your job site as one of the most effective ways to protect your most valuable asset: your workers. Injuries or illnesses, even for a short duration, can cause significant disruptions and costs—not only to your operations but also to the workers and their families. Safety and health programs encourage a proactive approach to identifying and addressing job site hazards before they result in injury or illness. Instead of reacting to incidents, management and workers collaborate to identify and resolve potential issues in advance. This partnership fosters trust, improves communication, and often leads to broader business improvements.
 

Part II of this course highlights that falls are the leading cause of worker fatalities in the U.S. construction industry. Each year, an average of 150 to 200 workers lose their lives, and more than 100,000 suffer injuries due to falls at construction sites. OSHA acknowledges that fall-related accidents are often complex events involving multiple factors. To address these challenges, the fall protection standard focuses on both human and equipment-related aspects to ensure workers are safeguarded against fall hazards.
 

Part III explores electrical hazards and fundamental safety practices. It highlights risks associated with power tools and electrical circuits, especially in workplaces where hazards are greater. This part prepares learners for further safety training, covering key definitions, best practices, and real-life case studies of electrical incidents.This online interactive video presentation is intended primarily for health and safety contractors, electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and other technical personnel interested in improving the standard and level of health and safety on construction sites, understanding the Fall Protection in Construction requirements and the reasons behind them, and learning about fundamentals of electrical safety.
