Basic Mechanical Principles & Equipment for HVAC Contractors and Technicians
This is an online continuing education course for Mechanical Journeyman licensed in Saint Louis County, Missouri. This online interactive video course provides a comprehensive understanding of thermodynamics and its laws, heat transfer and exchangers as well as advanced cooling technologies, specifically comparing conventional D-X air conditioning systems with the innovative Devap A/C, through detailed modeling, simulation, and performance analysis for residential, retrofit, and commercial applications.
Part I of this course provides an overview of thermodynamics and introduces the properties of fluids and how they are affected by various processes. The presentation also explains how energy balances can be performed on facility systems or components and how efficiency can be calculated.
Part II of this course presents the fundamentals of heat transfer and describes how specific parameters affect the rate of heat transfer.
Part III provides an overview of the purpose, construction, and principles of operation of the major types of heat exchangers.
Part IV of the course provides guidance on the operation of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps.
Part V focuses on the novel concept of a desiccant enhanced evaporative air conditioner (DEVap) with the objective of combining the benefits of liquid desiccant and evaporative cooling technologies into an innovative “cooling core”, developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
This online interactive presentation is intended to mechanical journeyman, master, HVAC Technicians and other technical personnel interested in learning more about the fundamentals of Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Systems.
