Maryland CE Requirements:
Hours Required:
Journeyperson Electrician: You must complete five (5) CE hours every two years.
Master Electrician: You must complete ten (10) CE hours every two years.
The continuing educational hours should be:
- Based on any article of or update to the National Electrical Code (NEC) or any local variants adopted by a local board in accordance with Business Occupations and Professions Article, §6-205(b)(1), Annotated Code of Maryland, as it may be amended, modified, or updated from time to time; and which has been incorporated by reference in COMAR 09.12.50.02-1B(3);
- Based on any code or standard of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that relates to the provision of electrical services as defined in Business Occupations and Professions Article, §6-101(k), Annotated Code of Maryland, as it may be amended, modified, or updated from time to time; and which has been incorporated by reference in COMAR 09.12.50.02-1B(3); or
- Compliant with the requirements set forth in Business Occupations and Professions Article, §6-205(b), Annotated Code of Maryland.
Note to Master Electrician: At least 5 of the 10 continuing education hours required every renewal cycle shall be obtained in a classroom setting.
License Renewal Period:
Journeyperson Electrician and Master Electrician: You must renew your license every two years from when your license was issued.
Course Pre-approval:
The following courses are pre-approved by the State of Maryland Department of Labor – Board of Electricians:
- MD 5-HR NEC 2023 and Changes from 2020

Provider Pre-approval:
CEDworkforce.com is approved by the State of Maryland Department of Labor – Board of Electricians to offer continuing education courses to licensed Maryland Journeyperson Electricians and Master Electricians.
Online Learning:
Journeyperson Electrician: You can take all of your continuing education hours online.
Master Electrician: You can only take up to Half of your continuing education hours online.
Master Electrician: You can only take up to Half of your continuing education hours online.
Reporting:
We will report your credit hours to the Board within 30 days of course completion.
